Europe’s first venereal disease (VD) clinic for men was set up in Dean Street, Soho, London in 1862. Though much has changed, Soho continues to be a vibrant and cosmopolitan area, particularly for LGBT Londoners who are more susceptible to a concentrated HIV epidemic that requires a creative and culturally competent social response beyond the ‘practice safe sex, test and treat’ model that remains prevalent within the NHS and third-sector organisations.
